XAT 2026 is set for January 4, 2026, from 2 PM to 5 PM, with the admit card released on December 25, 2025, and registration closing (with extensions) around December 11, 2025; the exam includes Verbal Ability, Decision Making, Quant & DI, and a GK section, with scores accepted by numerous B-schools for MBA admissions.

Important Updates for 2026

  • Reduced Duration: The exam has been shortened to 180 minutes (3 hours).
  • Essay Section Removed: The Analytical Essay Writing section is no longer part of the main computer-based test on January 4th. It will now be conducted during the GD/PI (Group Discussion/Personal Interview) stage for shortlisted candidates.
  • No Sectional Time Limit: In Part 1, you can move freely between Verbal Ability, Decision Making, and Quantitative Aptitude.
  • Increased Reach: The exam will be held in 109 cities across India, an increase from previous years.
  • GK Changes: The General Knowledge section now contains 20 questions (down from 25), consisting of 12 current affairs and 8 static GK questions.

XAT 2026 is scheduled to be held on Sunday, January 04, 2026. Conducted by XLRI on behalf of XAMI, the XAT exam has served as a trusted benchmark for selecting capable candidates for management education for more than 75 years. Recognised as one of India’s oldest and most prestigious management entrance exams, XAT continues to evolve by adopting modern and innovative testing methodologies. Its comprehensive and multi-dimensional evaluation structure is carefully designed to assess a candidate’s potential for business leadership and managerial success. The XAT score is accepted by over 250 institutes across India for their admission processes.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for XAT 2026, you need a bachelor's degree (3+ years) in any discipline, or be in your final year, completing it by June 2026, with no minimum percentage required for the exam itself, though individual colleges might ask for 50% (45% for reserved). There's no age limit, and professional degree holders (CA/CS/ICWA) can also apply.

Eligibility Requirements

  • A recognized Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years duration) or equivalent in any discipline is required.
  • Eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree by the admission deadline (around June 2026).
  • Holders of CA, CS, ICWA, etc., can also appear.
  • XAT itself doesn't mandate a minimum percentage in graduation.
  • There's no upper or lower age restriction.
  • Only full-time work experience after graduation is considered by some institutes.
  • While XAT has general rules, individual B-schools (like XLRI) have their own admission criteria, often requiring 50% (45% for SC/ST) in graduation, so always check specific institute requirements.

Note: XLRI sets the XAT eligibility, but individual colleges determine their own admission cutoffs.

Marking
Scheme
For Part 1
• For each correct answer: +1 mark
• For each incorrect answer: -0.25 marks
• Negative marks awarded for each un-attempted question after 8 un-attempted
   questions: -0.10 marks 
For Part 2
• In the General Knowledge (GK)
section, candidates are awarded +1
mark for each correct answer.
• Notably, there is NO negative marking for incorrect answers in this section,
allowing candidates to attempt all GK questions without the risk of losing marks.)

Admit Card

XAT 2026 admit card is now available for download. Candidates can use their login credentials to download the XAT 2026 hall ticket. The exam will be held on January 4, 2026 at designated test centres in 109 cities of India.

The test centre location and reporting time will be mentioned in the XAT admit card 2026. Candidates are advised to download their hall ticket as soon as it is released and check the location. They must also try to visit the XAT exam centre once before the exam date to check distance and mode of travel. After downloading the XAT admit card 2026, candidates must paste a recent passport size photo on it.

Result

The XAT 2026 Result is expected in the third week of January 2026, following the January 4, 2026 exam, with scorecards available for download shortly after, typically between January 31 and March 2026 on the official website.

Candidates will log in with their credentials to view scores, sectionals, and percentile, crucial for admissions to XLRI and other B-schools.

Answer Key

The XAT 2026 Answer Key will be released by XLRI on the official website, xatonline.in, typically a few days after the January exam, allowing candidates to download their response sheet and the provisional key via login to compare answers and raise objections, with the final key following after reviews, around mid-January 2026.

XAT is different from other MBA exams due to its Decision Making section and Analytical Essay Writing (AEW). Familiarise yourself with:
