Overview

SSC MTS (Staff Selection Commission – Multi Tasking Staff) is a national-level recruitment examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Through this exam, candidates are recruited for Multi Tasking Staff (Non-Technical) and Havaldar posts in various central government ministries, departments, and offices.

The SSC MTS exam is primarily meant for candidates who have passed Class 10 (Matriculation). The selection process generally includes a Computer-Based Test (CBT), while for the Havaldar post, candidates also have to qualify Physical Efficiency and Physical Standard Tests (PET/PST). Selection Process

The recruitment process for the post of MTS will consist of

  • Computer-based Examination (for both MTS and Havaldar)
  •  Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test for the post of Havaldar
  • Document Verification

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification 

As per SSC MTS and Havaldar  (CBIC & CBN) qualification requirements, the candidates must have passed the Matriculation Examination or equivalent from a recognized Board as on or before the cut-off date i.e. 01-08-2026.

Age Limit

The SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) exam has a defined age limit for different posts, as per SSC rules.

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 25 years

The age is calculated as per the cut-off date mentioned in the official notification.

Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per Government of India norms, such as:

  • OBC: Relaxation as per rules
  • SC/ST: Relaxation as per rules
  • PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and other categories: As notified by SSC

Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for SSC MTS and Havaldar recruitment is as follows

Negative Marking- There will be no negative marking in Session I of the CBE. There will be a negative marking in the Session II of the CBE. For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

Time Duration- The CBE of SSC MTS and Havaldar will be conducted in 90 minutes. Session I would be conducted in 45 minutes and Session II would be conducted in 45 minutes.

No. of Questions- The total number of Questions in the SSC MTS and Havaldar examination is 90 questions.

Types of Questions- The typology of the question would consist of Objective type/Multiple choice questions.

Mode of Exam- The SSC MTS and Havaldar examinations will be conducted in online mode.

Qualifying Marks- The qualifying marks of the SSC MTS and Havaldar examination are as follows:- UR-30%, OBC/EWS-25%, All other Categories- 20%

Syllabus

The syllabus for the SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) and Havaldar exam includes two papers – Session I and Session II. Here's a detailed syllabus for both the papers:

Session – I

  • Numerical and Mathematical Ability: It will include questions on problems relating to Integers and Whole Numbers, LCM and HCF, Decimals and Fractions, Relationship between numbers, Fundamental Arithmetic Operations and BODMAS, Percentage, Ratio and Proportions, Work and Time, Direct and inverse Proportions, Averages, Simple Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Area and Perimeter of Basic Geometric Figures, Distance and Time, Lines and Angles, Interpretation of simple Graphs and Data, Square and Square roots etc.
  • Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving: The questions in this part intend to measure the candidates’ general learning ability. The questions will be broadly based on the Alpha-Numeric Series, Coding and Decoding, Analogy, Following Directions, Similarities and Differences, Jumbling, Problem Solving and Analysis, Nonverbal Reasoning based on diagrams, Age Calculations, Calendar, and Clock, etc.

Session – II

  • General Awareness: The broad coverage of the test will be on Social Studies (History, Geography, Art and Culture, Civics, Economics), General Science, and Environmental studies up to the 10th Standard.
  • English Language and Comprehension: Candidates understand the basics of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, correct usage, etc. and to test comprehension, a simple paragraph may be given and a question based on the paragraph to be asked.
