Selection Process

The AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) selection process is conducted by the Indian Air Force to recruit Commissioned Officers in Flying, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches.

The AFCAT selection process can be summarized in 4 quick steps:

1. Online Written Exam

The first step is a computer-based test covering English, General Awareness, Mathematics, and Reasoning. You must clear the minimum cutoff to qualify for the next round.

2. AFSB Interview (5-Day Process)

Shortlisted candidates are called to an Air Force Selection Board (AFSB). It has two stages:

  • Stage I (Day 1): Screening (Intelligence tests and Picture Perception). If you fail here, you leave the same day.
  • Stage II (Day 2–5): Psychological tests, Group Tasks (GTO), and a Personal Interview.
  • CPSS: A special flying aptitude test for those applying for the Flying Branch (attempted only once in a lifetime).

3. Medical Examination

If recommended by the board, you undergo a thorough medical check-up at an IAF hospital to ensure you meet the strict physical and vision standards.

4. Final Merit List

The IAF creates a merit list based on your Written Exam + AFSB Interview scores. If you make the cut and are medically fit, you receive a joining letter for training at the Air Force Academy (AFA).
