PM Narendra Modi on March 8, 2026 inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth around 33500 crore rupees in New Delhi.
The PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of Delhi metro projects worth about 18,300 crore rupees. He also inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro. These include the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) corridor of around 12.3 km and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park (Magenta Line) corridor of around 9.9 km.
He also laid the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase 5-A of the Delhi Metro, covering a route length of around 16.10 km. The three new corridors are RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb concluded his official visit to India on March 8, 2026, marked a new phase in bilateral relations between the two countries.
This was President Stubb’s first visit to India in his current role.
During the visit, the Finnish President held talks with PM Modi focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation in multilateral forums and discussed ways to expand economic collaboration and people-to-people connections.

Iran’s clerical leadership on March 8, 2026 appointed Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his father, Ali Khamenei.
The son of slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will now be charged with leading Iran through the biggest crisis in its 47-year history.
He was born in 1969 in the holy Shi’ite city of Mashhad and grew up as his father was helping lead the opposition to the Shah. As a young man, he served in the Iran-Iraq war.
Mojtaba studied under religious conservatives in the seminaries of Qom, Iran’s center of Shi’ite theological learning, and has the clerical rank of Hojjatoleslam.

Indian men’s cricket team on March 8, 2026 won its third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
With this, India became the first country to win the T20 Men's World Cup for the third time; India also became the first country to win the title in its own home soil.
Sanju Samson was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’. While Jasprit Bumrah was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for final match.

Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen finished runner-up in the men’s singles category, after goes down to Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei in a gripping 57-minute encounter.
Lakshya’s defeat also meant that India’s wait for another All England men’s singles champion continues. Prakash Padukone (1980) and Pullela Gopichand (2001) remain the only Indians to have lifted the title.
In the past, Prakash Nath (1947) and Saina Nehwal (2015) had also finished as runners-up, while Lakshya has now reached the final twice, having also ended as runner-up in 2022.
