Overview

The LIC AAO (Assistant Administrative Officer) and AE (Assistant Engineer) Exam 2025 is conducted by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to recruit candidates for AAO Generalist, AAO Specialist (Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, Actuarial, Legal, Insurance Specialist), and Assistant Engineer (Civil/Electrical).

Selection Process

Prelims (Phase I): Objective test (qualifying).

Mains (Phase II): Objective + Descriptive test (marks counted for ranking).

Interview (Phase III): Personality test (60 marks).

Pre-Recruitment Medical Exam: Mandatory for final selection.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian citizen (some exceptions for Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees per govt. rules).
  • Age Limit (as of August 1, 2025):
    • Minimum: 21 years.
    • Maximum: 30 years (AAO Generalist, CS, Actuarial, Insurance, AE); 32 years (AAO Legal, CA).
    • Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (10 years), ECO/SSCO (5 years), LIC employees (additional 5 years).
  • Educational Qualification:
    • AAO Generalist: Bachelor’s degree (any discipline).
    • AAO (CA): Bachelor’s degree + ICAI final exam + Associate Member.
    • AAO (Legal): Bachelor’s in Law/LLM + 3 years bar experience.
    • AAO (Actuarial): Bachelor’s degree + passed CT1, CT5 + 4 more actuarial exams (IAI/IFoA, UK).
    • AAO (CS): Bachelor’s degree + ICSI Associate Member.
    • AAO (IT): B.Tech/MCA/MSc (CS/IT/Electronics).
    • AE (Civil/Electrical): B.Tech/B.E. (Civil/Electrical) + 3 years experience in multi-storied building projects.
  • Note: Only one post application allowed; no attempt limit.

Syllabus & Exam Pattern

  • Negative Marking- There is no negative marking in the Mains exam for Generalist posts, but for Specialist and AE posts, 1/4th mark is deducted for wrong answers in the Objective Test.
  • Time Duration- The preliminary examination will be conducted in 60 minutes or 1 hour. The Mains examination would be conducted in 120 minutes or 2 hours.
  • No.of Questions- The number of questions in the preliminary paper would consist of 100 questions and the Mains paper would consist of 120 questions.
  • Types of Questions- Both the papers would be objective type/ multiple choice questions.
  • Mode of Exam- Both papers will be conducted in online mode.
  • Qualifying Marks- Both papers are to be qualified within the cut-off set by the LIC.

The LIC AAO and AE Prelims Exam 2025 is common for all posts (Generalist, Specialist, and AE).
